Remote Program

This information is intended to provide clarity and transparency to pupils and parents or carers about what to expect from remote education.

Letter from the Head Teacher

Here at Rowhill we use two main tools to deliver our Remote Learning provison. These are Microsoft Teams and ClassCharts.

Microsoft Teams is free to download from the Microsoft website and also from most mobile phone app stores.

We have a page that contains a video on how to access Microsoft Teams here

ClassCharts is a website that students and parents log in to at www.classcharts.com.

We have a page that contains two videos on how to access ClassCharts and how to submit work here

Teachers will invite pupils to their live lesson via Microsoft Teams prior to the lesson taking place.

If there are any worksheets that are required by the pupil, these will be uploaded to ClassCharts prior to the lesson.

The pupil is expected to check ClassCharts before the lesson and upload any required documents that are to be used within the lesson.

These are likely to be completed in the lesson and possibly as homework and then submitted back through ClassCharts for the teacher to mark and give feedback.

What are our expectations for your child's engagement and the support that we as parents and carers should provide at home?

Pupils are expected to attend all lessons for the whole duration and engage with the teacher, where relevant. There are times where the teacher is teaching that the pupil may wish to mute themselves until they are asked directly to feed back their idea or answer a question for the teacher to assess their learning.

A parent should assist by helping their child set up a routine in order to facilitate a smooth transition from in-school face to face teaching to remote learning from home.

If there are any queries regarding the work, please contact the child's teacher or tutor.

How will you check whether my child is engaging with their work and how will I be informed if there are concerns?

Pupils attendance to remote learning is tracked daily. Attendance is taken every lesson and is tracked via our end of day review forms.

ClassCharts is checked every day to ensure pupils have logged on and a homework submission report is created each week to track those pupils who are completing work and those who are not.

Teachers complete an end of day review form which includes attendance for each pupil, the level of engagement and conduct within the lesson. At the end of each day, tutors check these and contact the child's parent inform them of the child's remote learning that day.

If pupils are not engaging, parents will be contacted by the childs tutor. Members of the Administration team are available to talk through how to set-up remote learning. We also have step by step guides here, on the school website.

How will you assess my child's work and progress?

Feedback can take many forms and may not always mean extensive written comments for individual children. For example, wholeclass feedback or quizzes marked automatically via digital platforms are also valid and effective methods, amongst many others. Our approach to feeding back on pupil work is as follows:

  • Pupils will submit learning activities/worksheets back via ClassCharts where the teacher can review, mark and leave feedback. Teachers may re any work that requires progression actions by the pupil.
  • For those pupils who are struggling to access ClassCharts, we ask that you contact the school as soon as possible to help. In the meantime, pupils can take photos of their work and send via Microsoft Teams but please note this makes it difficult for teachsubmit ers to mark and feed back so should be used as a last resort before using Class Charts.
  • Teachers will use various assessment for learning strategies in their lesson e.g. quizzes, Kahoot, question and answer and match-up activities.
