KS3 (YEARS 7, 8 AND 9)
We are very fortunate at Rowhill School to be part of the Horizon 20:20 project. The school works with several professional artists that offer a broad range of different art mediums. We are also able to offer a wide range of educational trips to museums and heritage sites that are entirely funded by the trust and enable students to enhance their cultural capital.
Pupils study different art movements and develop their practical and observational skills. During their academic year, they will be offered the opportunity to attend a variety of workshops where they will learn new skills. These include creating digital music, lyric writing, ceramics, puppetry, screen printing, photography, felt design, model making and drama/dance-based workshops.
The programme aims to prove the positive impact that the arts can have on young people in a non-mainstream education.
KS4 (Year 10 and 11)
At Rowhill School we offer Pearson BTEC Level 1 in Art and Design and Bronze Arts Awards. Students are actively encouraged to develop their practice with a focus on their personal interests and styles. Due to the smaller classes, it is far easier for students to explore historical art movements and experiment with creativity.
Students are given the opportunity to gain a BTEC level 1/Bronze Arts Award, which will enable them to pursue an education within the art and design framework.
Learners complete two different BTEC units where they experiment, and research given briefs. In total, they achieve seven units that consist of 60 guided learning hours.
This curriculum is a vocational course that increases the students’ cultural capital in a wide variety of the arts.
